Norman Rose Tavern is not your stuffy, dark English pub. It’s a modern space with stainless steel touches but with all the warmth of recycled sun-washed wooden beams and doors and tufted leather banquettes. Based in the heart of Downtown Napa in the new Napa Square at First Street and Franklin, the eco-friendly gastropub feels like it was meant for the location, with the dramatic windows and corner patio drawing the neighborhood and travellers inside. The gastropub will seat about 100 guests including 18 seats on the patio and another 18 in the private dining room. There will also be a dining bar in addition to the long, sleek traditional bar, and table seating. And while the name Norman Rose Tavern suggests a pub, Chef Reed Herrick emphasizes that it will be about the food first. The menu will consist of American classics such as hamburgers, meatloaf, waldorf salad and chicken and dumplings and will change seasonally. Owners Michael and Christina Gyetvan and Chef Herrick know their comfort food, having operated the successful Pizza Azzuro restaurant in downtown since 2001. All the food will be sourced locally including produce from Big Ranch Farm, mushrooms from Wild Forest Wild Mushrooms, meats from Five Dot Ranch, hot dogs from Fatted Calf, breads from Alexis Baking Company aka ABC. Cheeses, flowers and extensive selection of microbrews on tap and in bottle will all be sourced locally.
The Norman Rose Tavern is officially scheduled to open on December 28th. 1401 1st Street, Napa, CA. (707) 258-1516.
